Alabama’s Milroe Claims Second National Quarterback of the Week Honor

FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 1, 2024) – For the second time in a three-week span, Alabama junior Jalen Milroe has been selected as the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week. He is the first player to earn the award twice this season.

In Alabama’s 41-34 victory over Georgia that snapped the Bulldogs’ 40-game regular-season winning streak, Milroe amassed a career-best 491 yards of total offense and accounted for four touchdowns. Trailing 34-33 with 2:18 remaining in the game, Milroe connected on a 75-yard pass and followed with a successful 2-point conversion throw to give the Crimson Tide the victory.

Through the air, Milroe completed 27 of 33 passes (81.8 percent) for a career-high 374 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also rushed for 117 yards on 16 carries (7.3 per carry) with a pair of scores. The native of Katy, Texas, also earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week accolades and was named the National Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and the Maxwell Award.

The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.

In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
