Army’s Daily Snags Davey O’Brien National QB of the Week Accolade
FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 22, 2024) – Army West Point senior Bryson Daily has been named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week for Week 8 of the college football season. He is the first Army quarterback ever to earn the accolade.
Daily led the Black Knights to a 45-28 victory over East Carolina on Saturday with a record-setting performance. The native of Abernathy, Texas, accounted for all six Army touchdowns and for 318 yards of total offense. He rushed 31 times for a career-high 171 yards (5.5 per carry) and found the end zone five times. Through the air, Daily completed 7 of 10 passes for a season-best 147 yards and a touchdown.
Daily became the first Army player since 1916 to account for six touchdowns in a game, while his five rushing touchdowns tied the program record. He also broke the school’s single-season records for both touchdowns responsible for (26) and rushing touchdowns (19). He finished the game with a total quarterback rating of 90.0 and a pass efficiency rating of 226.5.
Daily, who also received Associated Press National Player of the Week and American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, ranks tied for first nationally with four Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 selections this season.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
