HEBRON’S LINDMARK NAMED DAVEY O’BRIEN HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD RECIPIENT
FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 19, 2024) – The Davey O’Brien Foundation announced at its annual luncheon at The Fort Worth Club that Jason (Clay) Lindmark, a senior at Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas, is the recipient of the 39th Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship Award.
The $30,000 scholarship, partially underwritten by Higginbotham and Simmons Bank, is presented each year to an exceptional senior student-athlete in North Texas. Recipients of the High School Scholarship Award are chosen based on scholastic achievements, community service, character, leadership and varsity sports participation. As part of the selection process, the committee interviewed all five finalists last week.
Lindmark is a National Merit Commended Scholar, an “A” Honor Roll student and recipient of the Hebron Hawks Academic Award. A three-year varsity starter and a two-time team captain in football, he earned all-district honors at defensive end in 2023 and is a two-time academic all-district pick. He also has lettered in track and field (discus and shot put) three years. He currently plans to pursue an engineering degree and play football at either Johns Hopkins University or Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Lindmark founded his school’s Entrepreneurship Club as well as his own LLC, J&A Amenities. Additionally, he is involved with the Young Men’s Service League, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Hebron Football’s Leadership Council. He also collaborated with students to engineer a seismometer for NASA Spaceflight. The seismometer was on the launch site for SpaceX Integrated Flight Test 3 and Starship Flight 5.
“We are delighted to award Clay with the 2024 Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship,” David O’Brien Jr., Chairman of the High School Scholarship Selection Committee, said. “He is an incredibly bright, talented and driven individual who we are honored to welcome to the Davey O’Brien Foundation family.”
Each of the four other finalists -- Tessa Goodyear (James W. Martin High School), Matthew Hofmann (St. Mark’s School of Texas), Faith Hooper (Ponder High School) and Mark Tripple (R.L. Paschal High School) -- honored at the luncheon receives a $2,500 scholarship. The finalists were selected out of 100 applicants, one per school, from across North Texas.
The High School Scholarship, first awarded in 1986, applies to the college or university of the winner’s choice. Recipients over the past two decades have attended schools such as Columbia University, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, Pomona College, Princeton University, Rice University, Stanford University, Texas A&M University, Texas Christian University, the University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of California-Los Angeles, Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia.
The Foundation has distributed over $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field to leadership in life. The winner will be formally honored at the 48th Davey O’Brien Awards Dinner at The Fort Worth Club on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025.
