JMU’s McCloud Tabbed National Quarterback of the Week
FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 28, 2023) – The Davey O’Brien Foundation has announced that Jordan McCloud of James Madison is the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week for the final week of the 2023 regular season.
On Saturday, McCloud accounted for a career-high six touchdowns as James Madison defeated Coastal Carolina, 56-14, to improve to 11-1. Through the air, the senior was 26-for-35 for 324 yards and a career-best five touchdowns. He also added a rushing score.
It was McCloud’s fourth game in 2023 with at least four passing touchdowns and his fifth 300-yard passing effort. McCloud, a semifinalist for the 2023 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, was also named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
