Oregon’s Gabriel Earns National QB of the Week Honor

FORT WORTH, Texas (Oct. 15, 2024) – Oregon senior Dillon Gabriel has been voted the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week following the Ducks’ 32-31 victory over No. 2 Ohio State in week seven. It is the fourth career National Quarterback of the Week honor for Gabriel, who earned the distinction twice at Oklahoma in 2023 and once for UCF in 2000.

On Saturday against the Buckeyes, Gabriel accounted for 373 yards of total offense and three touchdowns. Through the air, he connected on 23 of 34 passes (67.6 percent) for 341 yards and two touchdowns. Gabriel also rushed four times for 32 yards, including a 27-yard go-ahead score in the fourth quarter.

The native of Mililani, Hawaii, finished the contest with a total quarterback rating of 95.9. He also was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his outing.

The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.

In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
