Utah State’s Barnes Voted Davey O’Brien National QUARTERBACK of the Week
FORT WORTH, Texas (Nov. 26, 2024) – Utah State junior Bryson Barnes has been chosen as the Week 13 National Quarterback of the Week by the Davey O’Brien Foundation. Barnes is the second straight weekly recipient from the Mountain West Conference.
The native of Milford, Utah, accounted for 332 yards of total offense and four touchdowns as Utah State secured a 41-20 comeback victory over San Diego State on Saturday. On the ground, Barnes rushed 15 times for 193 yards (12.9 yards per carry) and a score. Through the air, he tossed more touchdown passes (3) than incompletions, going 13-for-15 (.867) for 139 yards. Barnes finished the contest with a quarterback rating of 98.9.
It was Barnes’ first career 100-yard rushing game, and the 193 rushing yards were the most by a quarterback in school history. Utah State trailed 10-0 before Barnes came off the bench to lead the Aggies to 41 unanswered points. For his efforts, he also was named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
