Mac Jones became the first Crimson Tide quarterback ever to receive the Davey O’Brien Award after directing Alabama to a national championship. Overall, he completed 311 of 402 passes for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns against just four interceptions. His single-season completion percentage (.774), passing efficiency rating (203.1) and total quarterback rating (96.1) all set NCAA records.
In addition to topping the nation in those three categories, he also was tops in passing yardage and was second in passing touchdowns. He also finished third nationally in points responsible for (252) and fifth in total offense per game (336.6). In 13 games, Jones threw for more than 300 yards eight times, eclipsing the 400-yard plateau on five occasions. The native of Jacksonville, Fla., also threw four or more touchdown passes eight times.
He set CFP/BCS National Championship game records for completions (36), yards (464) and touchdown passes (5) in a 52-24 win over Ohio State. In his final three contests, Jones combined to complete 94 of 118 pass attempts (79.6 percent) for 1,179 yards and 14 touchdowns.
