Syracuse’s McCord Tabbed Davey O’Brien National QB of the Week
FORT WORTH, Texas (Dec. 3, 2024) – Syracuse senior Kyle McCord has been named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week for the final week of the 2024 regular season after his performance in the Orange’s 42-38 upset victory over No. 6 Miami.
McCord helped Syracuse come back from a 21-point first-half deficit and complete the largest comeback in school history. Through the air, the native of Mt. Laurel, N.J., was 26-for-36 (.722) for 380 yards and three touchdowns. He had no turnovers and posted a 90.9 total quarterback rating.
During the game, McCord became the first Syracuse quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards in a season and also set school records for single-season touchdown passes (29) and 300-yard passing games (11). For his efforts, he also was named the Associated Press National Player of the Week.
The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life.
In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. For more information, visit www.DaveyOBrienAward.com.
